Jamal Subhi, a Palestinian refugee, talks about life in Ruweishid - 05.24.2006

Jamal is a chemistry and physics teacher. He lives in Ruweishid and has been their with his wife and children since 2003, when he fled Baghdad after the invasion of Iraq.

Jamal discusses his experiences in the Refugee camp, particularly the difficulties.

At this time, it looks hopeful that most of the Palestinians in Ruweishid will soon be given citizenship in Canada.

They are cynical however, having lived three years in a desert wasteland, with no possibility for visitors from family or friends.

The only way to gain entry to the camp is by special permission from the Jordanian government or the United Nations High Commission for Refugees(UNHCR).

We were able to gain access with the support of Tzu Chei a Taiwanese aid organization with connections to the UNHCR who is working to provide basic school supplies to the residents of Ruweishid.
